Real Wedding: Springtime Garden Wedding in Alexandria (Part 2)

26 05 2010

Back in Part 1, I showed you a sneak peek of Lesley and Chris’s engagement session with Deb Lindsey. Here are some of Deb’s favorites from the wedding day. When you see them together and interact with each other, you can see why this relationship works. Check out more photos from their wedding day on Deb’s blog and the slideshow on her website.

I have to share with you something about this wedding. April in DC is very unpredictable weather-wise, which makes an outdoor wedding a little dicey. The weather forecast had predicted rain all day on this particular day and in fact, it had rained on and off all morning. I was all ready to move the ceremony under the tent but Chris decided to take a chance and have the ceremony in the gardens anyway. Once you commit to an outdoor ceremony, with chairs all set up and guests all seated, there is no going back. If it starts to rain, you hope it only drizzles or else everyone will make a mad dash towards the tent. I was most worried about the string quartet with their valuable instruments. Luckily, the weather held out and we ended up with only heavy clouds. Thank you Mother Nature but you surely stressed me out! More recap to come  — Vicky

Celebrating 5 Great Years!

24 05 2010

DC wedding planner Event AccomplishedYesterday, May 23, marked the 5th anniversary of Event Accomplished being in business (it’s the official date on my business license)! It’s been an incredibly rewarding 5 years full of happy memories. We have had wonderful clients and worked with talented and friendly vendors along the way. I am lucky and grateful to have an outstanding team who put their hearts into every wedding.

If you asked me 5 years ago if this is the job I would be done, I would have said no way, but I guess life has a funny way of telling you what you should be doing!

Here is to many more years of Creating Memories and Celebrating Life! — Vicky

An Industrial, Minimalist, Modern Venue: Long View Gallery

19 05 2010

Remember when I visited this place during construction? Long View Gallery has come a long way! If you are looking for an industrial, minimalist, and modern venue for your wedding or event, be sure to check this place out. Within the span of 3 months, I was lucky to have attended 3 events at Long View Gallery, which provided opportunities to see what the space can do. I’ve combined photos from the Grand Opening, the Room Service Holiday Party, and a private corporate holiday party so that you can see how different they can look in the same space.

Real Wedding: Springtime Garden Wedding in Alexandria (Part 1)

17 05 2010

Before we share with you Lesley and Chris’s wedding photos, here are some teasers from their engagement session. Living in Denver and both being doctors, they had very few trips back to the DC area. Thank goodness for flexible vendors. Deb Lindsey, their incredible photographer, was willing and able to shoot their engagement sessions the week of the wedding.

Gift Idea: Weekly Flower Subscription from Petals for the People

12 05 2010

Looking for ideas for a wedding gift or for bridesmaids gift? How about a subscription to high quality flowers?

Petals for the People flower subscription DCMy friend Sarah von Pollaro, of Urban Petals, started a new service called Petals for the People. For $25 a week (or every other week), subscribers get an ever-changing bundle of mixed seasonal flowers and greens, personally selected by Sarah. Each bundle is large enough to make 2-3 arrangements. Subscribers can pick the bundles up at one of their designated  locations in DC, Maryland, and Virginia or they can deliver for an additional $10.50. You can follow Sarah’s step by step “how to” videos on how to arrange your bundles on the Petal Power blog, as well as more information on the flowers you received.

Check out Sarah’s segment on Fox5 Morning News teaching me and her Mom how to make arrangements from a sample bundle on the 2nd and 3rd video. We had so much fun (check out the still photos here too)

When I went home, I practiced the hand tied floral arranging skills Sarah had just taught me.
