Hear: Washington Talent Band Showcases

23 03 2009

Washington TalentAre you hiring a band for your event? Want to hear what the band sounds like live before signing them? Check out Washington Talent’s band showcase! Here is how it works:

  • Where: their Rockville, MD studio
  • When: various dates at 8:30-9:30pm
  • What: a live 30 minute performance by the highlighted band for the evening. Musicians perform a sample set of songs, dressed in the outfits they would wear to your event with full on lights. This will be followed by some time for Q&A

What a great idea!

Meet: Jessica Piscitelli of Jessica Pi Video

15 03 2009

Jessica is the owner of Jessica Pi Video. She attend the NYU Tisch School (my brother’s alma mater also) and has over 10 years of experience in the film industry and in videotaping weddings. Recently named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s best videographers, you will not meet a nicer person!

Jessica and I shared very similar stories as to why you should give videos a little more love and a second chance! Looking back at my own wedding pictures, I still do not recall what hubby and I were laughing at during our ceremony. It was something the priest said about priorities (and he held up a copy of the programs) and the pictures showed that it was funny. But without a video, we’ll never know! This is the same scenario in Jessica’s opening video. See for yourself!

Jessica and I were discussing the topic of why videos often play second fiddle to photography for a wedding. My guess is that photography is easy to show in a magazine. Wedding blogs are full of photographs. I find this totally ironic. You can’t put a video in a magazine but you would think with the web, that videos would be more prominent. Granted, photographs are immediate and are easier to display. You don’t have to click anything like you would a video.

Videos are one of these budget items that couples often cut out. They go into planning already decided that they will or will not have a video. They are rarely indecisive about it.

What do you think? Why do couples give videos such little love?

Lovely Letterpress

11 03 2009

Sarah and Erin at Haute Papier in Georgetown sent me the loveliest gift: letterpress personalized stationery! Did you know that they have their very own letterpress machine, Pearl! If you are looking for truly unique, custom stationery for your wedding or everyday use, take a look at their creative work. I would describe their style as luxurious and elegant with a mix of retro and whimsical.

BBJ Linen

9 03 2009

An addition to the linen rental market has arrived in the DC area: BBJ Linen! Opening a new showroom a few months ago in Lanham, MD, BBJ has been supplying specialty linen rental nationwide for over 25 years. Here are some of the beautiful linens I got to see from my recent visit. Their sale manager tells me that they get new designs every few months and rotate out the out-dated designs to keep things fresh.

Go: Marriott Bethesda North

6 03 2009

A few weeks ago, we were invited to visit the newly expanded Marriott Bethesda North in Maryland which was opened in 2004. Remember back in November, we were here for the DC ISES Expo. The hotel boasts the largest ballroom in Maryland, with capacity of 1700 for a banquet style seating! We sampled some of their pass hors d’oeuvres and saw some of their dinner options. Their package is very similar to most hotels: displayed and passed hors d’oeuvres, 5 course dinner, wedding cake, open bar and accommodations for the couple. Its rates are pretty comparable with other hotels in its category.

Meet: Da Vinci’s Florist

2 03 2009

We have just started working with Da Vinci’s Florist in the past year and I wanted to share our experiences so far. With its studio in Silver Spring, they offer great value for your design budget. Sharone, the owner, is a lot of fun to work with! Evident through the constantly changing studio design, he definitely has creative ADD! Every time I go in there, Sharone is trying out something different or showing off something new he has acquired. It’s a great place to test out a design scheme.

Back in October, we worked with Da Vinci’s for LaShawn and Harold’s wedding. They now have added lighting services as well as furniture available for rent. Check out their blog for updates but below are some photos from our recent visits.
